My father died in Vietnam

and now I've lost my son

I was just a little boy

when daddy said goodbye

He told me he'd be back real soon

hugged me tight and told me not to cry

They say he died in a firefight

and probably felt no pain

But I feel that pain

every day and every night

Daddy loved us and his country

He thought his war was right

But in Vietnam he died

because our country lied

When I think of daddy

I often cry in pain

I wonder why he left me

I wish he could explain

I was nearly forty

when my son left for Iraq

I have to go he told me

but soon I will be back

He did his tour and then another

He said he missed his mom

He drove out on patrol one day

and then he took a bomb

They say he died in a firefight

and probably felt no pain
