6/1/11 – President Obama – On January 18, 2009, you held an Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. Surely this must have been against the law, but I didn't see the U.S. Park Police bullies arrest anyone.
In 2010 a group of American students were prevented from singing the National Anthem at the same Memorial. You were allowed to celebrate, but they were threatened with arrest. Do you see anything wrong with this picture?
Yesterday I wrote to you about the violent arrest of peaceful dancers at the Jefferson Memorial and asked you to do something about the terrible treatment doled out to these innocent people. This coming Saturday, you have the opportunity to do something right. As of this moment more than 2000 people have said they will attend a new dance party at the Jefferson Memorial.
Will you support the People or will you stand by while Capitol police brutalize these peaceful protesters? Will you allow them to be thrown to the floor? Will you allow them to be choked? Will you allow the police to use live ammunition or teargas against these peaceful protesters? Do you really support CHANGE or is it all a show?
You can't have it both ways. You can't talk about repression in Libya, Syria, Egypt, Yemen, and other democracy seeking countries, while condoning repression in your own capitol.
While I can't attend the dance-in this Saturday, I will be there in spirit.
