Israel does Not Want Peace
5/21/11 – President Obama - I was pleased with some of your latest Middle East/North Africa speech. Unfortunately, you failed to mention that all of the repressive dictators in the region were supported for decades by America. What will it take for you to finally pull the carpet out from under Bahrain and Yemen? How many people need to die? How many need to be arrested, tortured, and jailed? The same can be said about Syria.
While you showed a modicum of support for the Palestinians, you still pledged your undying support for Israel. Israel does not want peace. Israel is the problem. Following your speech, you met with Netanyahu and, once again, he gave you the proverbial finger. He has absolutely no intention of making peace with anyone. See the maps which show the borders between Israel and Palestinian territory:

You'll notice that no maps say “Palestine” after 1948. And it's hard to deny that Israel continues to isolate Palestinian land every day. See the map of the current “Israel Wall.” The future Palestine looks like a slice of Swiss cheese.

Israel has literally cut Palestinian farms in half. Israel continues to build new settlements. Following your speech an Israeli commission yesterday approved the construction of 1520 new settlements in two districts of East Jerusalem, the Palestinian area occupied by Israel since 1967.
Netanyahu says the 1967 borders are “indefensible.” That's an absolute lie. Netanyahu says Israel will never negotiate with a Palestinian government that includes Hamas. Israel claims that Hamas refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist, but Hamas says it wants its recognition of Israel's right to exist to coincide with Israel's recognition of a Palestinian state. Obviously there IS room for negotiation here. America and Israel need to admit that no matter what, Hamas will be a part of Palestine and they MUST be included.
Tomorrow you will address AIPAC. Hopefully you will not cave in to Israeli pressure. Hopefully you will reinforce your remarks with even stronger support for the plight of the Palestinians.
Peace in the region will NEVER happen unless and until Israel agrees to reasonable and realistic terms for a settlement. It's only a matter of time until the Arab Awakening overwhelms Israel. Make Peace!
